    Horsepower different for dif. models?

    Hey all..

    got a quick question

Would the 1980 gs550e and a 1980 gs550l have a difference of horsepower? I would assume not since they have the same engine.. but i have read on two different sites now that the L model has 4 more hp.. Any confirmation or i am dead wrong?

    Thanks in advance

      No.

Both models have 49 horsepower. At least according to suzukicycles.org. That's generally considdered the definitve site.

The differences between the "e" and "l". The L has slightly longer rear passenger pegs. The E model has doubble cone exhausts, the L has a megaphone look. The E has 4 into 2, and the L has a 4-2-1-2. I can't test for differences right now ;-) Due to previous owner modifications to my L exhaust.

I believe the numbers due to the fact that my bike will do the 110mph that suzuki claimed. And other riders have confirmed the 1/4 mile times. The math works. :-)

Oh yeah, I have a 1980gs550e too ;-) Though mine is... well... far from stock now.

If you love it, let it go. If it comes back....... You probably highsided.
      1980 GS550E (I swear it's a 550...)
      1982 GS650E (really, it's a 650)
      1983 GS550ES (42mpg again)
      1996 Yamaha WR250 (No, it's not a 4 stroke.)
      1971 Yamaha LT2 (9 horsepower of FURY.)

The only variable is the exhaust. L's have shorter exhaust and that could account for a difference in hp ratings. Only thing I could figure. Dyno results would be the only definitive answer to your question...
