    Dyna S/wirng

Just got a dyna for my 1980 GS1100ET. Dumb Question - where do the black and white wires go? According to the instructions they are to be colour coded to the point wires- my bike had electronic ign.The only colours coming out of the old igniter box -white-orange/white- black/yellow-and black/white(assume this to be the common ground for the bike) kit is a DS3-2.

    Wayne,

All I know on a dyna S is that the red wire goes to the 12V and the black wire goes to one coil and the white goes to the other coil. Are those previously mentioned colored wires coming from your coils?

      re-dyna

Hey Jon sorry about the no reply situation, just figured it out on my own- should have been easy but too much on my mind at that time(or maybe not enough mind to put things on)Just saw my post today-man this is quite the site to try and negotiate! Too much info to keep up with. I hope everyone using it REALLY appreciates what a tremendous resource they have at their fingertips. Being the only long time gearhead(36 years) in my group of friends it could be frustrating. I feel as though I have found a whole new group of friends.

        Re: Dyna S/wirng

The first thing to do is unplug and remove the ignitor box from your bike and throw it in the trashcan. The Dyns S does not use and can not be connected to the ignitor box. On the S, red is switched 12v positive power supply. White connects the left crankshaft trigger to the left coil negative terminal for cylinders 1,4. Black connects the right crankshaft trigger to the right coil negative terminal for cylinders 2,3. Timing must be static set with a continuity light (connect continuity light between negative coil terminal for the side you are timing and any ground/NEGATIVE) Rotate the engine to align the case timing mark with the 1.4 cylinder advance mark. That would be the F4 mark. When setting timing, you must hold the rotor in the full advance position (turning the rotor clockwise). Rotate the breaker plate to time the 1,4 side.
Once you have the timing set for the 1,4 side, rotate the crankshaft 180 deg stopping on the advance mark (F3) , and while holding the rotor in full advance with your fingers, move the 2,3 crank trigger on the baseplate to bring those cylinders into time. Do not move the baseplate. (youve of course moved the continuity light to the 2,3 coil negative.)
