Steering Head bearing question

I had a quick question here for my brothers bike...


I just have ig down to the frame , and got the steering head bearings replaced. I have the forks out, and am wondering if you should be able to keep turning the handlebars past where they would usually stop.


i'm just trying to be %100 sure before everything gets put back together.

The triples usually have stops that contact the frame near the head.

yeah, it automatically stops there, but then if you gently nudge it on, it keeps going. didnt try it too much further though. Im guessing that once you put the forks in , there would be no way for this to happen, but just trying to doublecheck that the mech didnt hack it up.

What are you nudging? The bottom triples hit the stops. The top triples are locked to the bottom when the forks are in.

You probably don't have the steering head bolt tightened down. If you look, I'd just bet that the bottom of your tripple tree is indeed stopping where it's supposed to, and the top part (where the handlebars attach) is the only thing that keeps turning.

Once you get the forks in and torque/seat those new bearings, it should be fine.

Yeah. You most likely don't have the stem fully inserted/torqued yet.
If it is, then one or both of the stops is damaged.

yeah, its only the tripple-tree that keeps going.



Will I have to tighten everything once the forks are in? The bearings were changed at a shop, so I had thought they torqued everything right. Im not sure if I have the proper tool to tighten them /torqe/seat the bearings.
