I had two like that, Jon. Did almost exactly what you suggest and they cleaned up perfectly ... made a huge difference!

So far my 9003 Silverstar is holding up well on the bike, but the Silverstars I run on my Kia Sorento (H-7's) blow much sooner than conventional bulbs.

Still, the benefit outweighs the cost in my opinion!

Another option to the Silverstar is a PIAA H4 bulb from Dennis Kirk. Either the Xtreme White Plus, which shines at 4,150 Kelvin color temp. Or the Super plasma blue, which shines at 5,000 Kelvin moving into the blue spectrum. Both these bulbs draw the standard 60/55 watts power but ther light output is equal to 110/100 watt power bulb.
      Extreme White (Plus) part #22-387 @ $47.99
      Super Plasma Blue part # 22-386 @ $47.99
      Doze.
