milky oil
Changed the middle gear oil on the 850 today and found it to be totally emulsified. I'm baffled as to where the moisture could have come from. Engine oil was fine, so I don't think it can be condensation. The old gear oil was 4000 miles old. Any ideas?Tags: None

Does the breather on the top of the crankcase have a hose on it??? If the hose is missing you could have gotten water / mositure from the vent

Are you refering to the gear drive on the rear wheel? If that contains water then there could be water in the drive shaft tunnel that is working it's way into the gear. There isa rubber boot that should be tight on the output of the engine. Make sure it is not leaking or torn.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

I'm referring to the middle gear compartment, not the final drive. Lynn, the vent hose is intact so I'm stumped. I'll be changing the engine oil next month, so I'll check it again then.
