1981 gs1100, how do i tell which model...?

I have a 1981 GS1100, the side marker just says: GS1100 16 valve. So, is this an E model or ES or what, how do I tell
    Thanks for your input

I don't there was an ES model in "81" I think there were only "E" & "L" models that year.

It's a chain drive, right? 16 valves also tells you what it is.

      It's an E.

The 1100Gs were 8 valvers. The ES was made only one year, 1983, and has a fairing on it.

If the front axle is mounted on the bottom of the forks, it is an E model. If the front axle is mounted on the forward lower face of the forks (leading axle) it is an L model. also, E models have a fairly straight seat, The L model has stepped seat. I dont believe a fairing model (ES) was made in that year.
