I need some help with the installation of the front wheel on my 82 GS850GLZ. I am restoring my bike and took the wheel off to remove and service the forks. It had been a while since I was able to replace the front wheel and have a question on the assembly of the spacers. This is the Z model and there is no axel holder on the right side, the bolt goes right thru the fork, there is a vertical bolt in the front of the fork at the bottom. My question is does the right fork spacer go in from the inside facing out or outside facing in? My guess is inside facing out but I need to be sure. Also there is no spacer on the left side is there? I have seen 2 different part configurations and in one they show a spacer before the speedometer drive unit and none in the other.
Here is how I have it assembled.....
I have the bolt with the washer going thru the left fork into the speedometer gear box, going thru the wheel assmebly out the right side of the wheel into a large spacer with the large end facing the wheel, the spacer going into the fork from the inside going out, then the washer, nut and cotter pin.
The parts book also shows the last spacer going in from the outside of the right fork and one going in from the inside on the left side. I cannot remember if I had 2 spacers or only 1 since it had been a little while since I was able to get back to it and I want to be sure I am not missing a spacer or have it installed wrong.
Does the last spacer go into the fork from the inside or from the outside?
Does the left fork get a spacer? This would have to go in from the inside because the hole diameter on the outside is only large enough for the bolt, I forgot to look at the inside of the fork to see if a spacer went in. Thank you all
