    Browning/golding headers

I know that this means they are running too hot. Beside fuel mixture, I am wondering if it could also be cause by a leak in valve-cover gasket, and the tach unit not being hooked up.?

i took it to get carbs sync'd awhile ago, and the screws are more than 2 turns out. I think they might be toooo out, but dont want to mess with them...

    any advice in that regardS?

    thanks,

A light gold tone to the headers is about perfect mixture. Its bluish tones that you dont want. If your pipes are gold to golden brown at the exhaust ports, I would leave them alone.

Mine are a very dark brown. Is there a "rust" mixture screw I can adjust, or something?

Sorry Poot, I have to bring this up

Weren't you the one that strongly suggested that I use no sealant on my VC gasket? Is this your bike that's got a leaky VC gasket? Not being wise, just for my own reference buddy (I'm not flaming you, I promise!).

What did you use for a gasket?
How many miles before it leaked?
Had it seen any really hot days or something?

About the headers, all I have heard is that gold happens on a perfectly mixed bike, and blue is usally when it's hot from lean conditions.

it leaked slightly, then stopped, but I got a new one from real-gaskets.com
