    Ignition timing plate

    Can't find this in a search or factory manual. I'm trying to remove the timing plate with the pick up coils on it. 82 GS1100GK. Can't seem to break lose the bolt in the center of the crankshaft. Since the factory manual or Clymers didn't mention left hand thread, I've been trying to go counterclockwise. I'm not getting anywhere. Tried turning it clockwise, a little, but no luck there yet either. So, really need to know the correct direction before I ruin the whole assembly. Have been using an impact wrench and an air wrench. Thanks

    Don't know the answer, but if you are forced to assume, then the best assumption on the handedness of the thread would be that it is the oppsite way to the rotation of the thing it's holding. Otherwise it would want to run off.

      First I will assume that you are trying to turn the 12mm bolt NOT the large nut it should come off in the conventional CC direction

        My 82 GS1100G comes off "CC".

        Any pics of your SL350?
        I have one also. A real rat bike.

          Safer to use an impact driver with just a couple of whacks. that should loosen the bolt enough and not risk snapping it off. You may want to put a little penetrating oil around the bolt and let it set for a while before you attempt to loosen it.
