    GS550 - starter, commutator, brushes

Thanks to your excellent advices, I have succeded in seperating the starter from the bike.

    Now.

A couple questions: is this 86 Gs 550 ES a 4 brush starter, a 2 brush starter? For what I see is one that sticks out (rather badly shapen now, I'm afraid) and one that could be said to stick in, toward the center shaft.

When looking to replace this brush assembly, Dennis Kirk felt the 4 brush was the proper rebuild kit. True?

Have no fear, I have indeed taken apart the starter.

My problem is that what I see in mine is a two brush, at max. If I buy a four brush rebuild kit, will I be doing damage to my starter, or just upgrading it?

if the brushes are the same size and all i dont see any harm installing them.
