    Charging issue's

    Hi Guys,
I'm from the UK and have a problem with my 1985 GSX 550es, after a good run out last weekend I noticed that when my bike was idling the headlight appeared to be very bright, but went DIMMER if I revved the engine, the battery is fully charged could this be a problem with the rectifier/regulator ? I thought the lights were supposed to get BRIGHTER if the engine was revved ? Any help would be greatly appreciated,

yep, regulator problem, you could try moving the regulator ground to the battery ground but odds are the regulator is bad.

mine did this, except it did it at 6K RPM below that the voltage was to high, hit K and everything dimmed.

      Thanks,
will this be ok to ride with my lights on until I can get a replacement or will it fry the Stator windings ?

well if the voltage is getting to high it will cook the battery and if it is dead shorting like mine was it will also cook the stator.

Only if you follow me to the motorcycle shop to order my new stator/regulator . (Sorry to hijack your thread, had to needle Leon)

            good news guys,
it is the Regulator, it's putting out 19volts across the Battery which drops to 15.5v if I run the headlight on full beam, just done a 100 mile trip like this and apart from some excess heat from the battery and RR it was ok till I changed it. Thanks for you help guys
