Can anyone help in finding the problem of sync. the carbs on the gs1100. The number 3 carb which is the base to adjust all the others carbs to is reading high on the meter. The number 1,2,4 carbs can be adjusted to the proper height on the gauge. However the #3 carb is not able to be brought down to the height of the other three carbs. There is no air leaks on the intake manifolds. I am using the factory gauges with the metallic balls. It will idle but the sync is not correct according to the gauge. Any help would be appreciated.

As long as there is no air leaks between the carbs & the head the other carbs must be set to the same reading as number 3.
It makes no diff what the actual reading is. -
On most 4 cyl. air/oil cooled engines, the two center cylinders usually need to be set a little richer which will help to keep them cooler. My 1983 GS1100 manual states that the #2 and 3 carbs should be 1/2 of a ball diameter lower on the vacuum guage than # 1 and 4.Comment

Are you using the idle knob to adjust carb#3? Also, have you double checked your vacuum gauge to intake hose connections?Comment

Have checked the gauge and the hoses and the intake manifolds. All are A OK. I don't quite understand how to control the #3 carb with the idle knob screw. When you adjust that, it affects all four carburators. Unless you mean to bring the #3 carb to the correct level with that "screw' and then adjust the other three to the #3 carb. I have not tried that but I would think when I adjust the #2 carb adjustment screw that it would change and be incorrect again. I may be wrong, but I will try it and see what the out come is. I will try anything at this time.Comment
