Metal fragments in oil pan '82 gs1100e HELP

I wanted to fix my leaky oil pan gasket and when I removed it this what I found in the pan --> Click Here <--. Dose anyone know what broke in my engine to cause these fragments? The bike ran very noise at low rpms but I thought it was the clutch basket. Now I don't now what to think. Some one pleases help.

looks like an oil control ring spacer......do you have a cylinder that's smoking? Time for some rings I reckon

No smoke and compression is good in all cylinders. The fragment farthest to the right looks too big and too thick, to be a ring spacer.

ok.... pieces of bearing cage maybe, can you isolate where the engine noise is coming from, using a long screwdriver or similar as a stethoscope? I guess I'd be opening the clutch cover first before splitting the case halves....the crank has roller bearings as does the trani

I just looked up all the bearings in the parts catalog I found online. It looks like a bearing cage. I?ll start with the clutch and work my way to the starter clutch. Hopefully I wont have to split the case and check the transmission and pushrod bearings.

That stuff doesn't look like it came from the clutch side but your noisey idle could be a loose clutch hub nut. It doesn't look like a ball bearing cage either because those are squeezed together from the sides. Somebody who has done a complete overhaul should be able to tell you exactly what we are looking at.

I've overhauled my engine several times and I can't recall ever seeing anything like that.

On thinking about this, could it be the internal support metal for the cam chain guides? Maybe one has worn to the point that it has started to shed metal.

I'd say it looks like crankshaft bearing failure. If you remove your clutch cover you may find more bit's and piece's. Hope for the best.
