tires profile size
whats the best case tire size for a rear wheel, i ride hard and would like the most out of my tire, i have been running 130's and i notice they come in 3 diffrent profiles (Pirelli Sport Demon) the 130/90 r17 the 130/80 r 17 or the 130/70 r 17 is one better then the others like in stiffness and does a tall sidewall help wih handeling or a shorter sidewall give you giver steering? the 130/90 is v-rate the 130/80 and 70 are h-rated. the rim is oem size was 4.25.

I have had no problem with lower profile tyres, it seem's to handle the same.
But it lower's your gearing a little.

Ryan,
I think the tire widths are different so clearance could be an issue. The 90 would be the narrowest, the 80 a bit wider, and the 70 wider yet. I think the first number (130) has to do with the volume of the tire. The second number is the aspect ratio, a percentage representation of sidewall height divided by width. A 90 tire is 90% as high as it is wide. So, for a given volume (130) a tire that is 70% as high as it is wide is wider and has a shorter sidewall than a 90 aspect ratio tire. Also keep in mind that these dimensions will vary by manufacturer.

The first number is the width of the tire in mm which would be the same for all three mentioned. (it's a 'nominal' measurement so it may vary a little from exactly 130 mm from manufacturer to manufacturer, or tire model) The 90, 80, 70 is the profile, or aspect ratio which is the height of the sidewall as a percent of the width. So the sidewall on a 130/90 is 90% as tall as it is wide - or about 117 mm. The 130/70 has a sidewall that's only 70% as tall as the width, or about 91mm.
According to the tire manufacturers going to a lower profile tire will affect handling, but it may not be enough to notice. It probably makes more difference on some bikes. I think most of the GSs came with 80 or 90 profile tires.

so what do you guys think should i go to a lower tire? i currently have a bridgestone spit fire 130/90 on the back and thats been good to me, should i just stick with that size or try a 70 or 80?
would a shorter tire like the 70 be a little stiffer and closer to a radial kinda like those new sport bikes that seem to have 180 / 20 tires on?

I don't think you would be able to tell the difference. I've tried 90's 80's & 70's, and I can't. They all work fine.
