    Oil fliter cover leaks

    I had the filter and gasket changed on my 83 1100e. I notices some oil about the size of a quater everytime i rode. It has sat for 2 and a half weeks now, due to rain, And I noticed that i was leaking while it was cool now. I looked and looked finally I found the bolts holding the cover for my oil filter cover were loose. So I tightened them. There loose again. What gives?

    Is there a washer with the bolts?
    Might want to try them. Or a dab, small dab of locktite on them.

    Is the gasket crimped in there?

      I'll check the gasket again, I thought it was ok? I forgot about good old lock tite. I'll check for washers as well. As always thanks dude.

        The Oilfilter cover on my 86' gs750es had a hard time loosening. One of the post's were treaded bare. In the processes of trying to get the nut off the treaded post the Post came out. They're were double ended posts. So they screwed into the engine. I had some extra 5mm (i think) screws laying around from homedepot, not as fine of a finish, but the same thread, so I grinded it down to a perfect size, and instead of using a post and nut, I just screwed the cover on using 2 of these, adn one of the origonal posts. I also put in a new o-ring and cleaned up the edges of the cover (someone before me put some sort of sealant.. almost like black cocking) Not a leak yet.

        Prior to doing this, on my old oring, all three origonal posts, and with some old cocking still on the cover, my bike spit out almost 3L's of oil on startup. Plus, it used to drip after a good ride aswell.
        So.. makesure its tight, make sure nothing is between the cover and the engineblock that might not let it seal properly, and make sure any old o-rings/gaskets are replaced.

          Make sure the mt studs are not pulling ou t of the engine. Use of anything but OEM sealing O ring may also cause leaks. The can be fixed by using a sheet of wet/dry & polishing a thousand or two off of the cover mating surface

            thats why I love this website. Thanks gang I'll get on it today, gee for a change it's ackually sunny and 75 instead of raining in NH.
