    gs 1100ez rear wheel swap

Can anyone tell me if a rear wheel off a (1982 gs 750-L) model will fit my 82' gs1100ez? if so please provide me the modifications needed to complete the change over.

    Thanks, Brian

Isn't an L model wheel 16"? If this is true, it would lower the bike, probably not something you would want to do unless you're turning it in to a drag racer.
I know for a fact the EZ has an 18" rear wheel. 8)

I believe the only thing you will need to do is transfer the spacer/stack from the axle of the 16" wheel. I have done the same thing on my 83 1100E which had a 17" rear. It will lower you rear quite a bit and that may not be a good thing with going from 18" to 16". In my case, I am changing my front from 19" to 16", so my bike remains level.

actually Earl wouldn't that make you go 3 down in the front and 1 inch down in the back.

so it would give your bike a lower front end? thus affecting the geometry?

or did you slide the fork tubes down a little to compensate?

I thought all of the 1100 E's came with 17" rear wheels

I noticed a couple Guys had wider wheels on the back of a couple gs1100's at the GS Resources Rally.I believe they where 17 inch dia. and looked as though it was 1/2inch to 3/4inch wider they where using a 140x80 size tire. the wheel looked to be the same type as mine but not sure what they could have come off. I don't mind if the rear is lower I think its alittle high.

Some of the GS 1150 wheels were a little wider than the 1100 wheels, the 1150 rears are also 17"

The bike set up stock had a 17" rear and a 19" front. (2" difference to sit level) It now has a 16" rear and is getting a 16" front. Level would require an 18" front. With the 16", the front has been lowered 1" and with the smaller diameter front wheel, and the change in steering head angle, the steering and response is MUCH quicker and sensitive.

I believe 1100's had either 2.85" or later models, 3" rear rims. 1150's have 3.5" rims. Both use 17", except for 1100 L models which have 16" rear rims.
