The higher RPM's are ok, you just can't do it quickly. Sudden opening and snapping shut the throttle is what increases the vaccuum enough to suck it up.

My Motion Pro says to synch at 1700Rpms. I've also had it up to 4k to check the synch in that range.

If it sucked it up at idle, then surely your carbs are either way off, or as stated above, crack in a line.

Actually, I'm heading out to do mine again, I seemed to have Lost my Synch somewhere On the Cherahala Skyway.  :? :? (Thanks Wingnut )

Oh, on a cautionary note - I also keep at least 1 eye on the mercury. I know it's really bad stuff and I never let it get too high or I shut the motor off.

If it does it again, you need to manually synch closer (if you can).

Good Luck and BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldnt think you could hold an idle with them that far out.
        (3k rpm is not an idle...LOL )

If I understand it correctly, if my carbs were so much out of sync, the engine wouldn't even idle, right?

Do a good bench sync on your carbs first. Then you shouldn't have an issue.
I also recommend the Morgan Carbtune II. It works flawlessly and uses metal rods instead of mercury so no worries.

There are restrictor plugs in the four leads of my motion pro sync tool that have a very small opening . This prevents the mecury from being inhaled. Do you have the four restrictions installed in your tubes?
The mucrury is probably in the exhaust system. I would run it outside or even at highway speeds to try and blow it out.

The restrictors are there to smooth out the vacuum pulses to the tool, they won't prevent the mercury from being pulled in. One of the main things that allow the mercury to rise too high is not enough mercury in the resevoir. When I first got my stix, they worked great, never coming close to hitting the top. I made the mistake of trying to start the bike cold on the stix, and got a few backfires as it tried to start. This blew some of the mercury out of the resevoir, and it soon was a delicate balancing job to not have it sucked all the way up. Added more mercury and it's fine. You can get replacement bottles of mercury from most mc catalogs.

I think you got it. I didn't have enough mercury cause I spilled some of it by accident. Man that tool is delicate!!

I thought that even though I dropped 1/4 of the reservoir, it would still work?

I bought 1 bottle (75mg), would that be enough? How precise do I need to be with the "mercury pool" size?

There needs to be enough to fill the entire length of the tube, plus a little.

If your stix (Styx?) manual shows a prescribed line, then fill it up to there. If not, put in a bunch (I fill it almost up to the vent hole in the front).

Found some mercury. Gosh, it seems like no-one wants to sell this stuff, just like it was some kind of radioactive substance.

I got help from a friend mechanic and we got all four cyl in the same "distance" I mean same centimeter. I think I'm good to go. Still need to put the tank on and take it for a spin. I'll keep my fingers crossed. After much work into it, I sure hope she can give some love back!
