Carb syncing 78 GS1000 with mercury sticks (is it possible)

Is it possible to sync my carbs on my 78 GS1000E with a mercury style carb stick. According to my manual cylinders 2 & 3 are to have more vacuum than 1 & 4, I'm not sure how much more and I cannot measure iH with my carb stick. They use a special tool from Suzuki which I don't have. And also why is 2 and 3 different than 1 and 4, none of my other bikes are like this. Thanks for the help.

You can sync it even across the board. There is no need to make 2&3 differant. And yes your mercury tool will work fine.

I think any style manometr would work, as long as you have the proper fit to your intakes. Most carb sticks use special adapters for Suzuki, which are usually available seperately as well.

My book on my 1150 says to synch the inside carbs higher, also. Maybe because the inside cylinders are hotter? My book also shows the inside cylinders have different sized jets. Earl and/or Keith probably could explain.....

Yep, the #2 and #3 cylinders are stock jetted a half step richer due to their running hotter.
