GS1100 Questions Year/Carbs Dwarf Car

I have a friend who runs a dwarf car with a GS1100 engine. The Serial on the engine is GS1100X151282. Does this mean that the engine is an '82?
My '85 1150 doesn't have an "F" code on the engine, just on the frame number.

Also, he says he wants to put on bigger carbs and I was wanting to know which carbs might work for him. He is sure the carbs on the engine now came with the motor originally (stock carbs). Can anyone offer any help?

well,

all my friends seem to use gsxr slingshot carbs on that engine and achieve greater power output and tuneability.

but those are the carbs i have on my bike and i can't get them to work very well yet, so dont blame me if it takes a while to tune...

That depends a bit on how you define "work for him". Any carbs off of an oil cooled GSXR, Katana or Bandit will fit. A set of 38mm CV's would be a good upgrade, but it may take some jetting/tuning to get them to work really well. The best upgrade is a set of flat slide Mikuni carbs, 36mm would be the best choice if the engine is close to stock displacement. APE ( http://www.aperaceparts.com/ ) has them set up to run on the GS, but they cost $$$. Or you can find a set on E-bay for less and do your own set up and tuning from an unknown baseline.

Do the numbers on your bike's engine start with GS1100X******? I'm also trying to determine what year engine he has. I'm not sure how to tell if it's a GS, GSX, or GSXR motor.

My engine number is GS110X-109175. AFAIK, the GS and GSX motors are the same. The GSXR motors have much finer pitch fins on the cylinders and no cooling fins on the valve cover. If it is a GSXR 1100 it will also have a hydraulic clutch instead of a cable clutch. Look at some pics of GS1100's in the gallery and compare them to your buddy's motor. It should be obvious if he has a GS or GSXR motor from that.
