Blown Fuse but why did it do this?

On a nice ride today on some newly discovered brand new roads , the fuse that controls the headlight blew. I also lost my turn signals as well even though the fuse box has a separate 10A fuse for the blinkers. What happened? Or is it because the switch that controls High/Low beam and left and right turn are the same? Also when I got home and checked the manual, it stated to check the wiring for shorts as a blown fuse is a signal something could be wrong. -Pete '80 1100L

You could have had the high beams on & got the fuse to hot

Fuses will sometimes fail not blow. Vibration, moisture or what have you can result in a fuse opening. I would put in a new fuse and go riding. If it does it again, then start digging.

I carry a box of Buss style fuses with me at al ltimes, at least on the bike
        at all times.

My conenction, in the fuse box. had some corrosion on it.
That and a 130 watt high beam.100 watt low beam toasted the fuse box.

        New fuse box......$29USD
        New headlight bulb..$12USD

Not worrying about replacing fuses on the road......priceless.

I knew what my problem was.
        have you changed light bulbs?
or checked for crud in the fuse box?
or the fuse may have given up due to vibration.

If it is aBuss type, the netal line inside may look intact, hold one end
of the fuse by the metal contact and see if the glass spins in it.
I've had them break like that and still look ok.......vibration is not your friend
