HELP! What years can I interchange the coil for 82' gs1100!!

I need a new coil pack for my 82' GS1100L, and I was wondering what years and models I can interchange.. I just want to find a cheap and fast fix for my bike. So any help I would really appreciate. ( I found a 97 gsx1100 coil, will that work?)[/i]

If it is a convential coil it will work. THE coil on plug will not work

Thanks for the info, but me being a true newbie to motorcycles and only working on cars mostly (How almost nothing on new cars is interchangeable). But besides modifying the bracket it self, to hold the new coil, what else will be different from coil to coil?

Will my original plug wires work or do i need to use the one from the new coil?

And where my power is going into the coil, will I need to modify or change?

And can I Just change the one bad coil, and run the new(non original) coil with the old (original) coil?

It should bolt up without mods. the elect connections will be different & you will need to change the plug cap--use the originals
