    Strange padding

    Ok Ladies and Gentleman,
I took off the cover directly aft of the stator cover, covers the front sprocket, on my 1980 GS1100E to ease the removal and installation of the wires for my new stator (when it comes in), BTW don?t do this if you are not ready for the ton of gunk that has built up behind this, YUK! What I wouldn?t give for some PD-680 type II dry cleaning solvent. Anyway on the back of the cover is padded insulation. It is in fair shape. What is this for and is it necessary, cause if it?s not it?s coming off.

I'd have to guess that it is for noise reduction. It isn't sturdy enough to be structural.

And, of course, ride a lot and have tons of fun.....in a Krusty manner."
