Chain and sprocket ??
I have a 77 gs750 it has a 630 cahin and I am trying to count links, but I am not sure what I am doing wrong because for other gs's people are getting numbers like 110 and 88, but I count 50, what exactly am I suposed to count??

Re: Chain and sprocket ??
A 77 GS 750 with #630 chain uses 96 links. If you have #630 chain, the distance on the chain from pin center to pin center will be 3/4" If you have #530 chain, the distance pin center to pin center will be 5/8".
Count side plates. There is an inside side plate and an outside side plate.
You count both.

Another note are front and rear sprockets resonably generic meaning do the same sprockets fit many different bikes??

I believe all chain drive GS models use the same sprockets. There are some newer bikes that use the same mount dimensions for their sprockets that the GS does, but I know of no newer bikes that retained the #630 chain size so I doubt there will be any new bikes you can cross reference sprockets to for #630 chain.
