1984 ignitor unit for 1985 bike?

    Hi everyone,
I am just wondering if a 1984 GS 700 ignitor unit will work for a 1985 GS 700.
    Thanks!

There's no such thing as a 1984 GS700, they were only made for one model year, 1985. It seems that people buy an old GS700 to part it out on ebay, knowing nothing about the bike, and call it a 1984, because the manufacture date listed on the VIN tag on most GS700s is Oct-Nov-Dec 1984. They are 1985 models, but were actually first shipped in late 1984.

If the ignitor is off a 1983 GS750E or ES, or off of a 1983-1986 Canadian GS750, it will work on your bike as well.

Great, that's some good information, thanks Griffin. I thought the 700 was a one year only bike, but I thought I might have missed something out there.
        Thanks again -

He's looking for ignitors, not signal generators. The signal generators are the pickups at the end of the crank.

Yea I know...the parts page list the ignitors under signal generator.

Thanks everyone, this information is great, I went ahead and got the ignitor unit, so I'll test it out and see if it is a go.
Thanks again, I love this forum -
