GS1100 automatic front brake!

Hello from over the pond! Wales to be exact.

I?ve been searching the forum for info about a couple of problems with my GS1100 (an Italian import in very good condition but I have no idea how long it had been standing). Basically I?ve had the petrol (gas!) in the engine problem due to the screwdriver petcock thing and the front brake sticking/coming on as you ride thing. Anyway having red previous posts I took the reservoir top and the reservoir itself to expose the pin hole sized ? there was some dirt around and I cleaned what I could and used a thin copper wire on the tiny hole. Either the hole is clogged fast or the wire too thick I don?t know but it didn?t want to go in.

Anyway, what I want to know is if I dismantle the master cylinder and clean the piston etc will I be able to put everything back together OK or should I buy a parts kit and replace items etc first? I have a couple of days to have a go but will need to use the bike soon after for a longish trip.

PS The rectifier/regulator was buggered too but I?m currently running the bike on a ?4 (7$) 35A bridge rectifier using 2 phases from the alternator only. The battery is being overcharged a bit and undercharged a bit with the lights on but its working fine until I get a replacement. Anybody else tried this as a cheap temporary fix?

You can get a rebuild kit from Suzuki, I bought one last year.
With that hole, try thin fuse wire.
It would pay to clean up the caliper's to,Make shure you clean up the caliper bolt's and apply a little bit of hi-temp grease.

Cheers mate - calipers are fine and came apart easily. I put a bit of copperslip on the bolts. I think the problem is that blocked hole. If I bleed a little fluid from one of the caliper nipples then its fine for a while. But gradually the brake lever stiffens up and loses its free play and the brake starts dragging - sometimes really bad.

PS I'be been to Aus 3 times now - if only I had discovered the place 15 years ago!! :-)

Sound's like the return hole then, but the rebuil kit will help, these bike's are getting pretty old.
So are we going to have another Welshman living in Australia?

lol sadly not - getting old at 43!!

Yup the bikes 25 years old and that 25 years has been kinder to the bike than me!! Fantastic though - its the 4th 1100 I've had (been 4 years since the last) but only the 2nd 1074cc sit up and beg version which I prefer ;-)
