First off, someone probably scratching there head because a 580 lbs cycle is not a beginner's machine. To be honest, I purchased this machine for cheap and my current plans are to repair and recycle most of the parts into a tube rail 4 wheeler. I hope this isn't offensive or a sin to the various others out there. If it is (I've seen hints that the shaft drive 1100's are not common) let me know and I'll see about trading to someone else for something that's more ubiquitous. Please understand I'm writing this to find out if this is a "bad thing" so I can change my plans. I'm NOT doing this throw desicration of a possibly treasured machine in anyone's face.
If I'm still capable of being an accepted member of the family, I'd like to ask a few questions that I have.
First and most notabily being that there is some oil marks around the camshaft coverings on the top of the block. They are fairly dry, but still there. Is this a common occurance?
Second, It appears I am missing one of the for round covers found at the ends of the camshaft on the outside of the block. They don't appear to cover anything, as there are no visible exposed engine parts as a result of this. Should I get an extra for any reason other than cosmetics? [These "caps" are visible on some of the 1981 bikes in the gallery section]. It appears these may be to collect oil seepages as described in my first question, but the oil seepage is evident around the capped camshaft ends also.
My third question is whether there is a PCV valve to regulate vacuume between the crankcase and the airbox (I seem to just have a straight vacuume tube). My hunch is that there is not, but my experience from working on trucks has difficulty believing that...
Thanks!
