    1983 Gs1100 Ignition Coils- Ohms?

    I am restoring a 1983 GS1100.

Does any one know the ohmage of the stock ignition coils? I want to replace the stock ones with a set of aftermarket Dyna's. Any other aftermarket recomendations?

dyna greens-3 ohms--I gave them on my 1100ed but they are not an exact fit on most 1100 bikes--the both bolts dont line up exactly.---
just a note -i doubt if you will notice any gain in perormance--the main advantage is that the plug wires can easily be replaced

If the ignition and signal coils for your bike call for the same ohmeric values as every other 1100G I can find: 3-5 ohm for the primary winding, 30-40 ohm for the secondary; 140-200 ohm for the Signal coil. If your readings are within these values you probably have nothing to worry about.
I have been reading my shop manual from eBay...

I tested my coils and the secondary windings only had a reading of 15,000
ohms. Would this explain the loss of power experienced at high RPM.
So far I've discovered the R/R and the monitoring unit have blown, coils don't match and have wrong values. Oh well It won't have an excuse for running rough when I finish with it.

          Thanks guys!

I have Andrews coils on my 750, Dyna suggests 3 ohm for stock application and 5 ohm for drag racing due to heat and location. Well off to ebay I go to find a set of Green Dyna's.

True there is not a great performance gain with just a coil replacement, when motor work is done coils with a set of Accell 8.8mm Fat Stuff's do make a difference over 19 year old crusty spark plug wires!

order from Dennis Kirk part # 20-261 3 ohm coils $133 pair plug wires extra. Havent tried it, have heard 90s vintage Honda civic wire set will work with Dyna coils. You don't use the NGK boots anymore.
