A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Well during the Maine ride I compared the GS1000G stock exhaust I found MINT in the junk yard I have on my '80 GS850G with the STOCK '80 GS850GL pipes emjay has on his '80 GS850GL. My GS1000G pipes are noticeably bigger? They are also bluing near the top of the down pipes near the cyl. head on # 2 and #3 cyl. My guess is from less air flow cause of the fender in the way of air flow. Could the bigger than stock GS850 pipes and the K&N cause my low MPG??

just a guess here but if the pipes are substantially bigger they would flow more. which means you would need to re-jet . same with the K&N opening up the intake side of things.

but what Im really curious about is exactly which pipes will bolt right up to my 850 head. I have a rotten resonator chamber and its 130 bucks by the time I get the part and the gaskets. I was thinking about going to the bike graveyard and trying to find a set- so the 1000's pipes bolted right up then?

Yes , with the K&n you will be a bit leaner , no the fender is not restricting air flow ,If the exaust is from a stock 1000 I doubt it would flow much more to make it lean.
Check for air leaks on the intake with a fine water mist, if you have a vacumn leak the motor will misfire, indicating a vacumn leak , hence a lean mix.
Unless you have an exaust gasket leak.
After that look at carb tuning & setup.

I would try a bike graveyard first these pipes were complete and MINT off a GS1000G and they bolted right up to teh GS850G head. :D
