Dyna coil breaks loose 2nd time - how is yours mounted?

On my 82 GS1100E I have installed dyna coils. Since they don't easily bolt right on to the original stock mounts I made brackets that attach to the stock mounts and hold the coils a little down and toward the center. I was changing my oil tonight and saw that one of my brackets had broken and the coil was sitting on top of the motor. This is the 2nd time this has happened.

How do you have yours mounted securely and out of the way?

You have any pictures of your mounts? Mine just bolted to the original coil bolt holes. yeah the wires sit close to the frame but with additional insulation they work fine.

No pics but i just used flat metal strapping. I cut 4 pieces of strapping each about 2 inches long. Each piece had 2 holes drilled at each end. Two pieces per coil, one end on each original mount and attached the coils to the other ends.

When I installed them I thought the coils were too close when the stock mounts were used. I will have another look at using the stock mounts.

There shouldnt be enough vibration through the frame to cause metal strapping to break. However, it appears there is. Go to a plastics shop and get four pieces of 1/4" think HDPP. Thats high density polypropolene. It can be cut and drilled easily and is vibration proof. It cannot fatigue crack and break. Its also can withstand more heat than will ever rise from your engine.
The sizes you need are scraps size, so cost will be between almost nothing and nothing. :-)

I ended up using the original mounts. I replaced the mounting hardware with a slightly smaller #10 size bolt a new 1 inch aluminum standoffs. I put heat shrink tubing around the standoff that sits close to the coil wire.

          Thanks for your inputs
