Strange oil blow by
OK, this is wierd. I seem to have oil "blow by" on the gaskets of outside plugs (#1 & #4) on my GS1100GK. I removed both plugs and retorqued them (14 lbft) but it is still there. I'm pretty sure I need to replace valve stem seals as I am getting some oil fowling on #4 (haven't checked #2 & #3). I am commuting 40 miles each way now on the highway averaging 65+ mph. There is a slight miss under acceleration after the bike has sat for a while after a commute. #4 appeared to be oil fowled while #1 looked grayish brown. I'm pretty sure it could use valve stem seal as it is 23 years old and did spend several years sitting up before I got it. Planning valve shim replacement shortly.Tags: None

I've got to quit looking at that thing in the dark & without my glasses. Removed the chrome covers. Very fine film coming from the 2 towards the rear. Well, now don't I feel silly?

Not quite as silly as someone who went through two valve cover gaskets and torquing down the head trying to seal a "base gasket" leak.
