82 GS 850 - Green with Yellow stripe wire?
I am putting togeather a 82 GS850 GL that the PO had taken apart there is a pig tail with 7 wires comming out of the wiring harnes on the left side just in front of the side cover/fuse box area. The one that is green with a yellow stripe I can not find the other end for it to plug into anywhere. What does this wire go to? Or can someone point me to a wiring diagram for this bike.
Thanks BartTags: None

On my GS1000, which should be similiar, the G/Y wire goes to the oil pressure sensing switch which is located below the cam chain adjuster. If an aftermarket oil cooler has been installed the switch may actually be missing depending on the style of the oil line adaptor that was installed.'84 GS750EF (Oct 2015 BOM) '79 GS1000N (June 2007 BOM) My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/soates50/

That should be the signal wire for the fuel guage. Its mating end will be hanging down from the fuel tank sending unit.

In my manual and on my bike, the green with yellow stripe is part of the oil pressure switch, It goes from the oil press switch behind #3 cylinder to the wiring harness on the left side then up and forward to the red low oil press lite, Turn the ignition on, if you don't get the red low oil pressure lite (engine not running) thats your wire

Ok it is the Oil Pressure switch wire but there is no wire running out of the oil pressure switch on my bike. Can any one tell me how to hook a wire up to it. On mine there are two bolts and between them is a big plastic nut with a metal tab coming out of it. My guess is that the wire hooks up to the metal tab. Can I just soder a wire to it and then use a bullet connector on the other end or does it need any sort of special connection at the oil switch?

On that model, there is a green/yellow wire that comes from the oil pressure switch and goes to the oil pressure light and ALSO to the kick stand switch.

If the connector has come adrift from the end of the wire then you can use a normal 6mm female blade connector. Basically you terminate the green yellow with the female blade and then slide the blade over the end of the pressure switch. The end should go in the channel on the blade and make a snug fit. It worked on mine.I used an old boot from the front brake banjo bolt and some self amalgamating tape to cover the switch and it worked all the way through last winter.
