    Engine Help~~

hey guys, i have been looking around on ebay for awhile for a gs650 motor/carb set that i could use to transplant onto my 1980 gs550e block. I'd be using the connecting rods and lower end from my 550, and then the pistons/jug and the top end from the 650.

Anyways, i think i have finally found one but there might be some problems. I need advice. This engine is across the state, but driveable distance away.

Here's what the owner has said via email:

Hi. the engine was running good after I had the carbs
reworked . Sounded good and ran strong. It had sat for
a few years .I was suprised at how quick it was. I
rode it for a few months. Then it started running rough
and didnt want to Idle and I noticed it was blowing oil
out of the engine vent tube.I talked to the guy that
reworked the carbs and he said the rings washed out. I
have not even tryed to start it since to keep from
damaging the rest of the motor. There is gas in the
crank case.. This is about all I can tell you.
What do you think? Should i try and just get a new set of OEM rings for it, and have it honed? Money is the biggest issue here, i'm a poor college student. I don't want to bore over, as i don't have the money to get new pistons/rings and pay for the bore...

    advice greatly appreciated!

P.S. anyone have an old 650 engine/parts bike for sale?

Allway's a risk buying a motor this way, it could have a broken ring and a scored bore, you just wont know untill you strip her down.
Unless it's dirt cheap I would wait for a motor I could hear running.
