Hey Pete, the way we get the O ring's here is all curled up in a plastic bag, so I leave it out in the sun to soften and straighten , then coat it with grease.
The grease helps to keep the O ring in the groove and make's a better seal.
    Hope this help's!

vasoline works equally well in holding that seal in. Just clean the cover, put vasoline in the grove, install seal, then install cover to bike. Tighten the 3 or 5 nuts ( depending on model) according to the instructions given earlier about tightness, and fill and check oil level. Someone mentioned about some filters having smaller seals, I have found that Fram filters are the ones usually with the smaller seals. While I have used them successfully, I have also had them leak, too. The EMGO filters usually do not have a seal with them, and the Vesrah filters usually have the thickest ones. After you get all this done, and the leak check is good, you may then revel in the "You can do it yourself" world and become one with your machine. Enjoy!

Shazbot! I needed that tip before I started! Makes sense....thanks to you and Propflux as well. So far [-o< no leaks yet. I parked the bike in the garage on a level surface (don't ask, garage is sinking) then put paper towels underneath. No drips yet. Went for a short jaunt last night and all is well. Thanks again-Pete
