    Wiring turn signals- '80 GS1000G

So I just got a 1980 GS1000G. I am trying to restore it so that it will pass an inspection to get it on the road. It currently has no front turn signals but it does have the wiring harness.

I picked up some universal signals that have two wires comming from them, a ground and a turn signal wire. My question is what wires on the original wiring for the bike am I supposed to connect them to? What color wires do what?

There is quite a mess of wires comming from the front of this bike.

Not having a wiring diagram for your bike, I can't tell you exactly what colour wires you should be looking for, for the indicator wires coming from your harness.

BUT, it's not too hard, assuming that the original wiring is still there and that someone has tucked it out of the way. Take your tank off (and the 'bikini' fairing if you have one) and have a poke around; with a bit of luck you'll find a pair of wires for the right and left indicators each. [If you're not lucky, and some mongrel has cut the wires off flush at the loom, then life will get a little more complicated.]

It's simply a matter of soldering your new wires into the old. It doesn't matter which way around you solder in the new wires, as all it's doing is powering a globe and they aren't fussy about the direction of electron flow, thankfully.

If there's some friendly soul here on the forum, they might like to consult their manual and tell you what colour wires are for the left and right front indicators respectively.

    Mike.
