    GS650L shaft drive oil level

Hello all, recently picked up a "dead" GS650L shaftie for $280, and am enjoying tinkering with it. So far all electrical things are checking out fine, once the connectors have been cleaned and greased - even the inside of the tank is rust-free.

One small question that I could not find in SEARCH: what is the correct oil level for the final drive (at the wheel)? I'm assuming it's up to the level of the inspection hole, but I once filled a Ford diff to that level, then found found out it had to be be 1/4 inch BELOW to avoid blowing seals. So I'd like to check with you SMEs (subject matter experts, as we technical writers say).

Until Aug. 31 I'm at a place in the country where oil changing is easy to do, so I'd like to drain and refill ASAP. Presently looking for a shop manual and owner's manual, but they are not here yet.

Just up to the threads is the correct level. Might want to change the gear oil too while youre at it. Takes the same grade oil.

Here's a post (w/ pic) that describes the gear oil change:

Hope you haven't gone crazy looking for where U change your gear oil. Unlike GS850,GS1000/1100G's, the 650 shaft drive use the engine oil for the secondary gears. You only need to change the final gear oil with SAE90 hypoid gear oil. It'll take aprroximately 7 oz. Yer welcome......
