How do I open my speedometer drive?

    Assuming the bearings aren't completely toasted you could then "grease gun" the thing to force new grease well inside.

    My .02 ... let me know if this is completely unworkable.

    I was thinking along those lines but I'm a little shy around the parts washer these days... last weekend I ruined perfectly good caliper boots and seals by letting one set sit in the parts washer overnight and just rinsing the other set. Now I've got huge, wrinkley modern art caliper boots.

    I'm going to try and get some gallery space....

    But yeah, I'm going to pull it back off the pike and see if I can fill it up with some solvent/lube combo and get most of the gunk out...already thinking about how to adapt the grease gun to the speedo cable fitting!
