Carb rebuild for GS850
My 1980 GS850G runs great but always smells like gas when running. I have noticed that I have fuel covering the top of the gearbox directly below the row of carbs. It appears to be dripping out of somewhere around the carbs when the engine is running. Not much, but just enough to smell and blow onto my pant leg when riding. Does anyone have any experience with this problem, and if so what do I do to fix it? I haven't planned on rebuilding the carbs since the bike runs so good but I will if that is what is needed.
Thanks!! TerryTags: None

Three things come to mind that could be causing the problem. First, you may have a leak in the fuel line going to the carbs. Second, one of the carb floats may have a leak causing it to fill with fuel. When this happens the float sinks in the bowl and allows gas to overflow the carb. Third, the float valve, also called float needle and seat, could be dirty or worn. It also allows gas to overflow the carb.

Check the underside of the tank also It could have a seam leaking You have to take it appart to determin where the fuel is comming from

My bad petcock did the same thing.
Take off the tank. If it leaks while it sits rebuild the petcock. Also change the oil! It may have gas in it.
