    help

    i thnk i really screwed up now. i was changing the cam chain on my 82 gs 650 and when i went to put on the master link good ole butter fingers droped it into the motor i tryed to look but i can see it. now what do i do . thanks for any help

    is there any way i could try to flush it out?

      Where did you drop it? Into the cam chain tunnel? If so, I would first try a magnet and see if I could get it that way. If the magnet fails, then you are reduced to pulling the oil pan. That should do it for sure. I don't expect you should ever need to go farther than the oil pan for a large object like the clip.

        There is a splash shield surrounding the lower half of the lower camchain sprocket. Removing the oil pan will not provide a view of the bottom of the sprocket. Its likely the clip fell into the shield. A magnet is the best way to get it out. The best thing to do (if you dont already have one) is go to the auto parts store and buy one of the telescoping mechanics magnets. (the ones that look like a car antenna with the little round magnetic end. You should be able to probe around the sprocket between the sprocket and shield and it will come out. Do not turn the engine over.

        I always stuff a clean rag into the cam chain tunnel so prevent that sort of thing.

          If you have the oil pan off, you can put a big plastic basin under the bike and quickly dump a gallon of kerosene down the cam tunnel to flush it out. Worked for me when I dropped a washer.

              Just fish around with a magnet on the end of a flexible carb adjusting tool or something similar.

                i tryed fishing around and i didnt find anything im thing maybe its not in there i dont know . is there any way to just flush it out

                  If it's not on the floor it's in the motor, or between the fins. You can't run the motor until you find it.

                      ok i give up i tried flushing it out with keriosone and fishing it out and i even just took the chain out theres no way it can be in there . i guss ill just put it together and if its gose boo i guss i should have tryed harder
