Leaking gas out over flow tubes 1978 GS750

The bike has the VM carb on it. Gas is leaking out onto the road when I sit at stops. When we rev the engine it stops. When the engine is off it stops. When the bike is sitting and idle it leaks out the over flow tube!!! What could be the cause?????

Time to pull the carbs and clean them. Or at least check the float level, the level is too high or a needle is not seating which will show up when the bike isn't using gas faster than when it's going to the carb.

      What he said.

Classic dirt in the needle valve issue. Or a sticking float. Both are usually intermittent. Meaning, it will do it one time and not another. If yours is doing it all the time then it is more serious. Get the carbs off and open the bowls and check the floats for sticking and the needle valves for particles. Clean them out good. Don't fool around, you could be filling your crankcase with gas. Check your oil for a gassy smell. If so, change the oil. If not sure, change the oil.

Anyone else think of anything else I missed?

Thank you all for the postings. This is turn out to be the issue! I found a blob of what looked like gum fuel in the float valve of carb number 1. I pulled that out and check float levels again. Fixed! I did this a few weeks a go but had time to log in to here and to let all know that your advice again saves the day! Thank you GS people

Put an inline fuel filter on your bike Carlos. You may want to pull the tank and check the screen filter on the petcock as well. All that aside though, I have had the same thing happen to me already in the past and it was a piece of varnished fuel for me as well. This came from some orifice in the carb body itself I am sure so filters would have never helped me.

Glad you got it resolved. There is nothing worse than a bike with incontinence issues
