    big holes in my megaphones

Hello fellow GS riders, i have a 1979GS1000L it has two megaphone mufflers each with a baseball size whole on the bottem of them. the holes are toward the very back of the mufflers. i was wondering if this hinders or helps performance, and if it hinders is there something i can do to remedy the problem until i can afford a vance an hines replacemant?
and on a side note, 33mm mikuni smoothbores versus stock carbs with a stage 3 jet kit. which is better?

when i do get a performance exhaust, would you say that vance and hines is the way to go? and with the carb settup do you that the smoothbores are superior to stock carbs with a jet kit?

When you say smaller diameter carbs i assume you mean smaller then the 26mm stock carbs. i also had a gentlman tell me that a dynojet kit in my stock carbs was a waste of money, any thoughts?
