    Do I need to rejet with my mods?

    Currently my 83 GS750E has a Vance and Hanes pipe from an 81 on it (yes it fit... it just needed some grinding), and Accel coils. But my problem is that I cannot get the stock air filter neck back on. The plastic shrank or something and I can't it to work. What I plan on doing is replacing it with a K&N filter replacement (K&N part number SV-7503). Will I need to rejet with these 2 mods? Also, where can I buy the K&N filter online?

    I think any bike shop can get them for you and I know Dennis Kirk has them(the K&N's). I've heard of one or two sizes up on the main jets with the air box lid off for a V&H pipe. Actually I think that's their recc's, but don't quote me on this. I run a Kerker and didn't have to touch my jets until the K&N's went on, but I put the Dynojet kit in as well.Dennis Kirk has those too. I don't understand why the airbox will not mount back up? Are the rubber boots that stiff? Maybe try soaking them in hot water for a bit. Just a thought.Before I put my foot in my mouth, are you meaning the back half of the airbox where the filter is housed or the filter itself?

      It's not the box that can't go back on to the carbs... The neck that holds the filter won't go back in to the box and I can't screw it down. When it is sitting in the box, the top still sticks about 1/8-1/4" above the airbox. If I forced the screws in, I would still have a gap there that air could get in. And from what I understand, K&N makes a filter that just replaced that entire neck piece.

        Are you fitting the nipple of the the air cleaner holder into the hole in the air cleaner box? When I had my stock air box this was sometimes a problem.

          I actually thought that nipple was a problem so I cut it off... but the stupid thing still doesn't fit.

            I actually thought that nipple was a problem so I cut it off... but the stupid thing still doesn't fit.
            I'm trying to remember, but doesn't the pod also require fitting under a flange by rotating the pod clockwise? I'll take a look at mine this afternoon when I get off work, but other than what I've mentioned I can't think of anything else. Maybe someone else has a suggestion.

              Yes, it does have to rotate under a tab in the front near the tank. But I just took a closer look at mine. Apparently the bike had been sitting so long outside, uncovered, and in direct sunlight that the bottom of the airbox had warped. What I am about to do is cut about 1/4" of plastic off the bottom of the filter housing neck, then add a screw in the front to be sure that nothing will move around. Will this idea work, or am I just asking for trouble?

              BTW, I have pretty much given up on the idea of the K&N Filters because it'll cost $290 for the filters and the jets. I only spent $500 on the entire bike, and I would rather not spend half the cost of the bike on air filters.

                Before cutting anything...How 'bout heating the air box bottom with heat gun or possibly a hair dryer while applying pressure to return the box to the original shape?
