someone tried to steal my bike!!!
Woke up this morning, bike cover was gone (there goes 40 bucks). Got on my bike, it wouldn't turn over and i noticed that my front break fluid was gone. It was kind of low to begin with but i notices that there was a small puddle on the ground and that there was fluid on the underside of the reservoir. What the heck could this guy have done? The bike starting thing might be cause of the sudden snap in cold weather at night we have been having. But whats with the break fluid thing? Any suggestions? Also, is there a lock you can get for bike covers? Thanks all...Tags: None

after closer inspection it looks as though the break fluid leaked out. there is break fluid on the underside of the resevoir. Did a seal break? Is there a seal there? Anyone know where I can get a replacement?

2 thing's to check, the bolt that goes into the resevoir( banjo bolt ) And damage to the resevoir it self.
I can not see the seal's on the piston all of a suden loseing your brake fluid!
More likely damage caused by trying to manhandle the bike.
I would guess he pulled hard on the hose.Loosen off the bolt that holds the hose SLIGHTLY, then re-tighten, if your lucky you wont have to bleed your brakes, but I would do it anyway.
Yes you can get locking covers, and I am sorry for what happend.
All the best for the future.

Man, I remember one time I found some bast**d had pulled my two outside spark plugs one night. I went to start the bike and it turned over like there was no compression, and I thought "Oh, no," and I started looking at the motor and realized the plug wires were just dangling in place.
It's a terrible feeling, too, because you never know when he'll be back. A locking cover helps, but they can always cut that. I wish I could hook up a cattle prod to the cover as well...

Thanks for the kind words all.
When i get home I will see if he disrupted the hose at all. I assume the bastard did this while yanking my cover off. it probably caught on the resevoire and pulled something out.
I also came out one morning and 2 of my spark plug boots were pulled off. What the hell is wrong with these people?
The bike won't start but i think thats cause of the cold weather. Any thoughts on how to remedy this? I had the choke pulled almost all the way out and everything. What makes a bike not start in the cold?

since there is no fluid in the resevoir, you guys think i definetly should bleed the breaks? or should I just fix the loose cable and pour more fluid in?
is it difficult to bleed the breaks? where are the bleed screws located? sorry but i'm a newbie with bikes.

lets put it this way: if you don't bleed the brakes, that will be your last post, because you'll be dead
Bleeding the brakes is pretty easy. Down on the caliper, there is this little nipple looking thing (bleeder screw). When you unscrew it a bit, it will let fluid out. Fill the master cylider with brake fluid, and squeeze down the brake lever. While holding the brake lever down, open and close the bleeder screw. Then release the brake lever. Repeat. Eventually, fluid will squirt out. Keep going, and bleed it a buncha times. I go overkill on the bike, i usually bleed it like 20 times, and call it a flush 8) Brake fluid is cheap, your life is not.

Consider yourself lucky, I was woke up in 1990 by the police.. at about 4am.. Some kids went on an arson spree, pulled my fuel line and lit it up.. wish I hadn't had a working vacuum petcock stop... then at least it might have got them in the process. They burned 3 other cars that night.. and a couple a few nights before...
Worst part, they found 'em... 2 girls.. both under 13yrs old (that's all I could find out, and nobody followed through with it at all.. parents, kids.. everyone got off 100% free).
Luckily I had full coverage....

You remember that commercial in the movie Robocop?.... The one where a thief gets into someones car only to have large robotic straps reach across his chest, electrocute him, then dump his smoldering corpse out the door? The product was something like 'Securo-System 3000'.
I'm just saying that a dead bike thief laying next to my GS850G will make the next vandal think twice.

so i went ahead and bled the breaks. it was alot easier than i thought. thanks everyone.
The resevoir still seems to be leaking a bit. The cable going into the master cylinder was nice and tight. it looks like it's leaking on the bottom of the resevoir but i didn't see ANY cracks at all while bleeding the breaks. Don't konw where it's coming from. It doesn't appear to be leaking that bad so i'll keep my eye on it.
As for the stolen cover, i gotta buy one today but I don't know what kind to get. I found one with an alarm built in but i'm not sure how trusty that would be. Maybe i'll just get a regular cover and a cable lock to put through the grommets and hope for the best. Any suggestions on how to not get your cover stolen?

This is why I keep my GS in my laundry room at night. Some people should just be put to sleep. There are motion sensing alarms you can get that may help...or at least scare away somebody messing with you bike.1981 GS 450L

too bad about your incident, put this guy under the cover, eh!?
I would also be very careful in checking the brake line, as there is a reason it all spilled out, he may have ripped it out of the banjo fitting, or a small tear in the rubber? something that may not leak in the driveway, you don't want it getting loose again on the road! 8O
look on ebay for a new master cylinder, it may be cheap enough to save your life :?
