    Carb Model ID Help?

Can anyone ID this rack of carbs for me? I bought them on e-bay, can't pass up a bargain, just want to see if I can use them on the gs 1100e. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4576881106

    Thanks,
    Chris

these are GSXR or BAndit CV carbs. Work great on GS-engines.
    see also my post here:

But get an O2 tester for setting them up for YOUR bike. I believe this are the best carbs to put on a GS for street driving!

      flo,

Thanks for both posts. These are off of a 94 RF900, that much I've found out. I have a pdf of the carb service manual. There is a pair of T's called "diaphram chamber connectors". Mine didn't have any hoses on them. I'm thinking this balances the vaccum between the 2 pair of carbs. Can I install a hose here and T it to provide vaccum to the petcock from here? Also, did you tip the rear of the carbs up to get close to the angle of the gixer motor angle? Any suggestions on main jet size? I have to pull one to see if it's marked, reading has told me two different sizes, 130 and 112.5. So I need to check that before install. By the way, it's a stock 83 gs1100e, 21,000 miles. Thanks for the help.

        RF carbs

sorry, didnt consider the RF-possibility. Werent much of that bikes round here and the carbs look quite equal. I didnt do anything to raise the carb or so. In my MOKO frame there is even less space than in a GS-frame to do anything like that... Just leave it flat and see if it works.

For a start setup with open K&Ns I would go with 142.5 or 145 mains (like on my GS1100 engine). depends a bit on your exhaust. Then get an O2-meter!!! To invest the time in building one will pay back after 2 times changing the jets for try and error! You can easily build one from scratcj and using a junkyard sensor for 20-30$. Or buy one from Summit or so for round 100.-... Its only a narrow band but its enough for everything you want to do! Another possibility is get to a shop with a dyno, but thats much more costly!

I am not sure if that "diaphram chamber connectors" provide enough vacuum to operate the petcock. And I think it would heavily confuse the carbs by the way... just leave it open or put hoses on it and expose it to open air (atmosphere pressure). Usually there should be another possibility to hook up the petcock. Somewhere on the cylinder head side of the carbs...

Last question before I button things up the carbs. For your 1100 setup, did you do anything with the needles? Thanks for the help.

              Hi,
for some reason I did not have to do anything to the needle on the 1100 setup... I dont know why, maybe the main jet riched it up enough or the preowner of the carbs allready clipped them richer, really no idea... I just put it on (with 140 main which I guessed to work OK from earlier experiments) and after adjusting idle it simply ran almost great (which was about the last thing I expected...). LAter went one step richer with the mains, thats it.
Your RF-carbs might be a newer modell with a leaner setiing, must try if that works... If its leaning out when you open the throttle you know to put the needles higher... As a good orientation you can look at the needles like an accelerator pump setting (acrually its something completely different, but thats the way it shows up). If you have more questions, just ask, no problem.

                Flo,

The RF's are 94's. I put 142.5 mains in them, and new nozel "O" rings. Set the floats as described in the service manual, 1mm bottom of float to the top of the pilot jet. Cleaned them out, blew air through them after. Pilots were a bit plugged from sitting. I'll put the bowls back on tonight. Then I'll let you know how it goes. By the way, where are you if I may ask?

                Thanks Again,
                Chris

                    Flo,

When you go back to Germany. Have a Dortmund Kronan and some Westphalian Verschenkin(phonetic spelling) on me. I had a Dortmund exchange student in our home and his mother used to send care packages. Where are the bikes, here or in Germany?

                      Chris,
will definetely do that :-) Dortmund isnt even so far from my hometown! Its about 150km down the A45. I am considering applying for a job there... Cool that you took up an international! I used to live in a quite international students flatshare back in Germany (were five people, only two of them German). Ususally quite interesting!
My bikes are both in Germany. I am here for only 6 months (3 of it left). The MOKO is something like an EGLI (maybe more common brand who did exactly the same design). These were central pipe frames... TIG-welded custom steel frames from Switzerland(!) in the early 80s. I really made a good deal to get one for low budget... luckily most mechanics suck with electric and carbs... ;-) after throwing away the orig carbs (now the Bandits on it) and spending a long weekend and a box of beer to straighten out the cable tree it runs great... Engine was obviously rebuilt not long ago. Still a lot of work to do to make it look nice but it drives violent!

re OT. If you ever want to come back don't even try it. You will be banned for 3 or 10 years from when you attempt to re-enter. If you are on a J1 it is different. Rik

                          Flo,

I guess someone else understood what you ment by OT. The way things are in the world today, I wouldn't try staying over passed my visa date. If you meant working overtime, have at it.

aaaah, I am here on J1 and could easily get another 1.5 year on my visa if I wanted (which I dont, but THAT I would discuss more privately, lets just say the US is nice but not THAT GREAT accoridng to my personal experience)...
with OT I only meant "out of topic", as I left the orig. topic of that thread and got a bit less motorcycle related... and I dont want to get thrown out of the forum or create any disgust... I lost my last membership here because I wasnt active for a long time, but never git thrown out of any foru and I want to keep it like that....
but thanks for the visa advice, I considered taking some time off after my work time here and may get heavy trouble with my visa if I stay too long... it is actually amazing how the US treat foreigners... I am not sure if the citizens here are aware of that but if you visit f.e. Germany they dont ask you if you are a pimp or a prostitute. Thats no joke, you get a form in the air plane where you have to do multiple choice about your intentions... the latter is included...
