Need rear shocks

Hi all,

I've been thinking about replacing my rear suspension, and am wondering what my options are .


I was going to buy *and possibly may still* some Kona shocks, since they are good quality, and rebuildable, but it might be a bit above my budget now.

At the same time, I dont want the bottom of the barrel.


Does anyone know what decent shocks I could get for around 200-250 cdn. dollars? I know I won't get rebuildable shocks, but something that will at least last 2-3 years?

Progressive 12 series?

I've had mine for about six years of hard sporty riding and they are just barely starting to lose a teensy bit of damping ability.

I'm on the wrong side of 250 'merican pounds riding a GS850G, so the heavy duty springs weren't quite enough when I added my wife and luggage. I eventually ordered Progressive's heaviest spring and have been very happy -- I normally ride solo on the #2 preload setting. I go to #4 2up and #5 2up with luggage.

If you, your lady, and/or your luggage are lighter, then you'll probably be happy with the heavy duty springs.

Don't forget to also upgrade those fork springs, if you haven't already.

I agree with bwringer.
I'm about 245lbs and frequently ride 2 up.
On the 1000S, I have the heavier springs, you have to ask for them, they're usually not listed in the catalog.
Single rider, 2/nd setting.
With my wife, 3/rd......sometimes 4/th setting. Sharon complains it's too harsh oin the 4/th setting.
On the 1100E, I got the heavy springs listed in the catalog. By myself, 2/nd setting. 2 up riding 3/rd...usually 4/th setting.
Very comfy ride.
In 6+ years, no leaks, no loss of damping or rebound.
Do the fronts also or it'll be a pogo stick bike

I got a deal on them, my friend owned a parts shop at the time, under $200USD.

Hi, I'm in the same "shopping cart" for my GS650L.

Progressive 14 series is $155, plus $72 for black springs or $90 for chrome springs, same price for std. or heavy springs.

the Progressive 12 series is $220, plus plus $72 for black springs or $95 for chrome springs, same price for std. or heavy springs.

All prices per pair of shocks/springs. The difference between 12s and 14s is that the 12s have adjustable damping.
