Originally posted by ddaumI'd like to add a question to this thread. I'm a new rider with my first bike, 80 GS550L. I check my oil on a level surface and on the center stand and the level is good. My questuion is: Is it normal to see no visable oil in the sight glass when the bike is running? Sometimes I let it warm up or idle on the center stand and I noticed this. And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

wait "1" minute than check oil level...fill to middle of glass if needed.

I'd guess that it probably is normal to not see any oil in the sight glass while the engine is running. I have no idea exactly what the quantity of oil is that stays in passageways and such while the engine is running, but obviously, the oil pump is going to pick up some fairly significant amount of oil and begin pressurizing it throughout the engine. The level will therefore undoubtedly drop quite a bit in the window.

Isk isk now i knew why I got exxcess oil outside of the engine. I must reduce my engine oil then. before more damage are done.
