    socket sizes for sparkplugs

I just bought what i thought was the correct size wrench for my sparkplugs-- and it doesn't fit!
Anyone know what the correct size is (for a 1980 GS 750 L, if that matters). Because the people at the store won't let me go in and out with their stuff unless I pay for it...

That would be an 18mm, if you can't find a sparkplug one, stick a piece of fuel line in a regular deep 18mm socket

I've always used a 13/16" spark plug socket for plugs in the NGK-B8ES family.

True for the family of B8ES's you're referring, only problem is the correct plug for 80 GS750 is NGK-D8EA which is 18mm.

Oh yeah, a 13/16" fits the oil drain, but it's way too big for the spark plugs.

            18 mm it is. Thanks!

Thanx for the info. I had no idea what type of plug the 750 used. I know Honda is famous for using what I would call non-standard plug sizes (some as small as 10mm?) How hard is it to find an 18mm plug socket?

I think it also translates to 3/4" socket

Ordinarily I'd agree with you but not in this case as the 3/4 is a fraction too big. Just had to buy a 18mm socket for my own plugs.

A regular deep 18mm will work, don't need the thin wall

A deep 18mm 1/2" drive impact socket will not fit, I had to buy a 3/8" drive deep socket for my bike. Now if I could just find a compression tester for 12mm threads... :x
