Question For all Carb GURU,s

G,Day all,
This is my procedure of what I do to fire up my GS1000G.
Pull the choke No throttle Press the starter and she roars to life.
Now when I Pull the choke instead of staying out is sucks back down again.
Why Is this so Can any one tell me please its a real pain in the bum.

How long are you letting it run to warm up with the choke on? It is normal for some of these bikes to need a minute or two with the choke on before they will idle properly with the choke off.

is the choke on the carbs or is it handlebar mounted?

im guessing the spring resistance on the choke switch/plunger is not what it should...

if hanglebar mounted, there's a screw underneath the choke switch, disassemble it, theres a wavy washer, that should provide the resistance to keep the choke engaged, make sure the washer is wavy or heat it red hot, bend it a bit, re-heat and cool it real fast in water, and reinstall maybe with a bit more tension on the screw....

if carb mounted, there are u-clip springy things that connect on the rod behind the round knob you pull... they should have enough pressure to hold the rod out when they are clamped inthe narrower parts of the rod. if not, pull the mechanism apart an bend them in more...

If you have the bar/pad mounted choke knob, lift up the rubber dust seal around the plunger/rod, and tighten the small knurled ring on top just a LITTLE at a time until you like the action. Don't turn it too hard.

I had a similar problem.

Try to sync them. Not that this will solve it, but if they are impossible to sync, your intake manifolds may have a leak. Mone looked good, but soaking them with silicone lube made the problem go away for a few minutes, telling me I had a rubber crack that went all the way through.

A replacement set solved the issue.

Pull the knob up & the rubber cover, underneath that you will see a knurled knob ----tension adjustment Just tighten it maybe 1/4 turn
Don't get it too tight
