The GS is no more
Well guys, i took my final ride on the old GS today. I had some old lady pull in front of me and the bike is trashed now. Here is a link to a Hayabusa Forum im a member of, it shows pics of the bike, car and me. I know you may hear this often, or maybe not, but please wear your gear, it saved my life today. When you look at the pics you will see why.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Most important is that you're okay. This is just another example that you never know when it's going to happen. Even just a little trip around the neighborhood can be deadly. Kudos to you for wearing the right gear!

Our main purpose, in an unorganized fashion, is to do little more than engage in anecdotal stories and idle chit-chat while providing little or no actual useful information. And, of course, ride a lot and have tons of fun.....in a Krusty manner."

I take a lot of grief from co-workers for wearing leathers and gloves in July in a state that just recently abolished helmet laws.
Of course it is my ass not theirs on the bike so I do what I know is right. I totaled my first GS in 1987 the SAME way with the same results. Bruised hand and no other injuries because I had full leathers , even gloves, in Biloxi, Ms in August.
Those pictures sadly reminded me of my 82 450L that I lost.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

Glad your OK. I had an old person who shouldn't be driving total my truck a few years ago. Funny how it takes something like this before they wise up and get off of the road. Did you think of buying a parts bike and returning this one too the road? It looked like a hard hit, but she looks like she took it well. From the first look it seems that the car got the worst of it.1981 GS 450L

I watched a young woman hold the cell phone in her left hand adjust the rear view mirror and begin brushing her hair with the right as she steered the car with her knees. Totally oblivious, to anything else.
Too bad about the GS.

Like all the others have said, glad you are ok...the bike is secondary to your life.
You can also look at it as another page in your bikes life, I mean, there are lots of parts around for these bikes and winter is coming. You just have to convince your wife about the project if that is even an option.
Again, glad you are ok.

I hate seeing these old bikes getting smashed up like that. But we put them at that risk when we ride them so it does happen. It's just good that you came out OK man. Kudos to you for being a safety gear user! Thanks for the testimony. Looks like there are a lot of really good parts left on that bike. Including the engine.

Wow, that is a familiar looking sight. My 750 didn't fair quite as well as yours, but OUCH!!
I think you said it all with this comment.
"Thanks everyone! Once again, proper gear has saved another life. I was only going about 3 miles away, some would say "its not that far, i dont need a lid", but as you can see, it doesnt matter where you are or how far youre going. Just goes to show that it doesnt matter how good of a rider you are, its everyone else you have to watch out for."
Heal up and ride on!!
