Tires For My 1980 GS1000S

I am having a hard time finding some rubber for my 1000S. I have only been able to come up with Cheng Sin for the 18" & 19" rims. Any guidance on other sources. Dunlop has always been my favorite in the past.
Does anyone have any experience or an opinion of the Cheng Sin.

Cheng Shin is good budget rubber.

But, surely you can find other manufacturers offering your sizes. Do a web search for distributers. Everyone still offers a 19" and Dunlop, and Avon offer vintage style 18" tires with modern compounds. Get a Dennis Kirk catalog too. www.denniskirk.com

For the GS1000S, the Continental Tyre Fitment Guide comes up with:
100/90-19 front
120/90-18 rear

Both are available in Continental TKV11 and TKV12.

Poke around, and you'll find several other widely available brands. FWIW, here's my favorite tire supplier:

The front size is very common. The slightly less common rear size is available in:
Pirelli Sport Demon
Michelin Macadam
Dunlop 404, K591, GT501, and 491
Bridgestone BT45 and Spitfire
Metzeler ME88

...and many, many more. You get the idea.

If you really want to feel unloved, try having a 130/90-17 rear tire. Even with that oddball size, there are several excellent choices available.

I have pirelli Sport Demon tires on my 1000. 100/90-19 front, 120/90-18 rear.

When looking for 550 tires I see 130/90-17s everywhere. It's usually the narrowest made in the 17" size.

My 550 takes a 120...90-17. Now that is harder to find.

I put Dunlop GT501's on my GS1000, front was 100/90x19 and rear was 130/80x18, about same diameter as the 120/90 but with a little more meat on it. Got them through Ron Ayers, price was excellent and fast delivery. They seem pretty good but haven't had a chance this summer to really flog it and find the cornering limits.

Fron one 1000S owner to another............

Try the Dunlop GT501. They come in the correct sizes.
I actually went up 1 size in the rear. I think it's a 130 or a 140.
They're pretty reasonable price wise.
I saw the front in a mag ad for $62.and change.
I've run thru 2 sets, both front and rear. Decent mileage from them.
I got about 8000 from the rear, lots of high speed running and lots of 2 up riding.
They stick very well, no squirmy feelings......and are very good in the rain. Plenty of tread on them. Kinda like a radial tread design, but it is a bias ply tire.
the front is more rounded, not the old"V" type that Dunlop had on some of their older tires. It doesn't cause the front to drop or really feel like it's going to fall at lean angles.
I'll keep them on my S.
I tried a set of Michelin radials and didn't like them at all.
The bike felt too loose and like it would fall in every turn.
