    Thanks

    I know from experience that a 750 won't go on a 1100.

FRom what I understand if they are the same year and same model (I.E G to G or L to L) they will fit. The 850 and 1100 share many things, The 1100 being a bigger bore version of the 850

My 83 1100g has a tank from an 82 850g on it right now. The tanks from both bikes are identical except for color.

I realise that this is a little off topic, but if the 1100 is a bigger bore version of the 850, does this mean that I can mount an 1100 engine in my gs850L frame? Just curious.

the 850 tank would need to be from 82 or later the early 850 tank mounted with one bolt, the latter tank uses two bolts.

Yes it will fit..The 850g and 1000g share many parts, this being one of them.

The 850 is a 1000 frame, so many 850, 1000 and 1100 parts innerchange, as long as it goes in the same series G, GL, GN etc...

Now as far as other post asking if the 1100 is a bigger bore version of the 850, no. The 850 is a overbored 750 and that's where that block stops. The 1100+ is a overbore of a 1000 motor.

Oh and yes a 1100 motor will fit in a 850 frame, seeing it is really a 1000 frame.
